Summer in northern Michigan is in full swing!

It's really nice to be home for the summer. I do enjoy my travels, but we live in such a beautiful part of the country, and it's nice to enjoy it and not have to hop a plane everywhere and live in hotels.

I've been doing a lot of fly fishing on some of the streams nearby. Fishing has been good, but the scenery is simply fantastic. The nice thing about the area is that you can hike back through the woods to the river and not see a single person all day. It's like being way up in the Canadian wilderness. Last week, an osprey flew a few feet over my head. I often see eagles soaring, hawks, deer . . . all sorts of wild critters. Here are some of the streams I've been fishing:

Here is one of the trails I hike to get back to the Pigeon River. If you look close, you'll see a black bear:

Here's Lily Munster, playing in the lake:

Click here to watch a short video of Lily Munster, Scooby-Boo, and Spooky Dude playing in the lake and jumping off the dock!

This is cool: Recently, Lindsey Meister from Indian River held a lemonade/cookie sale to raise money for an organization I co-founded in 2007, Northern Michigan Animal Rescue Network. She stopped by to present the money in person: over $30.00! Thanks so much, Lindsey! The money raised will help animals currently in foster homes.

I had two signings at Chillermania this past weekend. Here are some of the visitors who dropped by on Sunday:

And check this out: 7 year old Brenna started her very own book series called 'Minny Chillers.' She gave me her first book at Chillermania yesterday:

Thanks, Brenna! It's a great book!

Thanks again to everyone who dropped in. I'll be at Chillermania again this Saturday and Sunday from 10 until noon both days. Hope to see you there!

Until next time . . .

WRITE ON!

Best wishes and Happy Reading,

Johnathan Rand
